Prayer Model
Key Scripture: In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. - Matthew 6:9-13
Purpose: The Lord’s Prayer is the most commonly recited prayer. This tool is to help understand the different concepts Jesus used as He modeled for the disciples how to pray instead of focusing on the words of the prayer. Praying through each component of the model will eventually lead you to pause and reflect on what the Lord wants to speak to you. When you get hung up, reflect on why. Let each component reset yourself to the King and His Kingdom.
Phase of Discipling Best to Introduce: D1
Discipling Tips:
THIS IS STILL BEING UPDATED
Eat for yourself the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. It will help you immensely as you introduce this tool and model it to your disciples.
Assign each person in your group these things and have them be prepared to share next week.
1 scripture of the verses 9-13 and have them use the tool Eat the Word on it.
Bible Hub the word “pray” from Matthew 6:9
Bible Hub the word “Father” from Matthew 6:9
When you are leading them through each verse you can use these questions as a guide to ask them.
If the Lord prompts you to introduce this tool without having them do the above work prior, then together Bible Hub the words “pray” and “Father” from Matthew 6:9 and then assign the scriptures to use Eat the Word with to share next week.
The components do not have to be prayed in order and they can go back to a component as many times as they feel led to.
Tool Specifics:
THIS IS STILL BEING UPDATED
Jesus tells the disciples in Matthew 6:5-8 how not to pray and then He proceeds to tell them how to pray.
Have them write out a prayer for someone or a situation using the model and post it in your group before next week.
The following week have each person read their prayer as you identify together the 6 components of the prayer model. Remember they do not have to be in order and they can go back to a component as many times as they feel led to.
